How to put ribbon on a Christmas tree?

First of all you need to know what kind of ribbon and how much of it to get. In general, wired ribbon is the easiest one to use. Ideally, you need it to be about 2 – 2 1/2 inches wide. When it comes to length, the more you get, the better. Even if you have some left over ribbon, you can use it to wrap your presents. That way, the presents under the tree will match the ribbon on it. For 7.5 foot tree you need about 12 yards of 2 1/2 inch wide ribbon. If it is narrower, you will need about 30 yeards of it.

So, let’s start from the beginning

Do you put ribbon on Christmas tree before ornaments?

The simple answer is yes. The first thing that needs to go onto your tree are the fairy lights. They work best with the ribbon if they are tucked in between the branches. Next you put up the ribbon and leave the ornaments as a last step.

What is the easiest way to put ribbon on a Christmas tree?

Start from the top and wrap the ribbon around the tree loosely. Tuck the end piece into the back of the tree and work your way around it. In order for the ribbon to drape naturally around the tree, don’t pull or stretch it too much. As you are working your way around the tree, tuck the ribbon at varying intervals, let it billow out and tuck it in again. Furthermore, you can twist it about 3 or 4 times. This creates a more interesting look. Vary the lines, don’t follow one particular pattern, let some part of it flow freely, while others may be more wavy. Let it flow naturally, so that you don’t need to secure it with anything. Finally, tuck the end into the back of the tree.

For this tutorial, you can use two ribbons. One red and one stripes. Put one over the other and tuck both of them into the back of the tree. Slowly start weaving the ribbon in and out of the tree. Tuck in the ribbon once every 12 inches. Start wrapping the tree with the ribbon, tucking it in and out. Work your way down and make sure that the ribbon isn’t wrapped around the tree in straight lines. When the ribbon is finished, tuck the end into the tree. Take a step back and check the result. You can make a few changes here and there, if you think you need to, until the tree looks perfect to you.
