Things You Should Clean Every Day

You don’t need to be a clean freak to make sure some things are kept clean on the daily. And while there may be things you are cleaning more than you should, the following are not them. There are plenty of things to clean around the house, and it’s completely normal to forget to clean some things from time to time. However, we recommend you add cleaning the following things to your daily routine. Here is what you should clean every day.

#Kitchen Towels

Cleaning experts suggest that bathroom towels should be changed up at least three times a week. However, when it comes to kitchen towels they recommend daily. Pieces of food, a moist environment and plenty of dirt make kitchen towels the perfect breeding ground for germs and bacteria. That’s why it’s essential to change them every day. Make sure to wash your towels the right way, in order to eliminate all kind of nasty bacteria. To do so make sure you let them run a full cycle in the washing machine at 60 degrees C. When it comes to kitchen towels, make sure to not use any softener as it will only ruin their absorbency.

#Sinks

According to experts, this is one of the dirtiest places in your whole house. The moist environment of the sink is a great place for microbes to thrive. Since we use it every day and wash things like our hands, dishes and food it’s easy for bacteria like E.coli and mold to occur. The germs you wash off from your hands tend to stick around your sink trap. So, make sure to give your sink a daily wipe down with some disinfectant or antibacterial cleanser. You can also use a homemade bleach and water solution. This goes for the bathroom sink as well.

#Sponges

We tend to forget that things that do the cleaning (such as washing machines and dishwashers) also need a good clean. This includes sponges. Thanks to its pore like structure, the sponge can collect a ton of yucky things alongside plenty of bacteria. And then since we use them on nearly everything, we spread all that bacteria around the whole house.  But how do keep a sponge clean? First, make sure to always squeeze them out all the way. Then you can try a couple of methods. You can let the sponges run a cycle in your dishwasher or put it in the microwave. For the microwave method just saturate your sponge with some water (1/4 a cup for scrub sponges and half a cup for cellulose) and then heat it on a high setting for one (scrub) or two (cellulose) minutes.

#Door Knobs

Door knobs get touched constantly – with both dirty and clean hands. Studies done by the Continental Journal of Medical Research show that from 180 door handles tested, 87 percent had contamination from bacteria. While that may sound scary, there is an easy way to prevent it. Make sure to wipe down your door handles and knobs on the daily with an antibacterial cleanser or wipe. And when you are outside try to avoid touching handles, or use and disinfectant afterwards.

#Dishes

We are all guilty of letting dirty dishes piling in the sink. And they often stay there for quite some time, or at least overnight. However, this is a bad habit to have. As we mentioned a couple of times, a moist environment and leftover food pieces are bacteria’s best friend. And the longer you leave them the more bacteria can spread around your kitchen. So, make sure to clean your dishes on the daily. And if you want to be extra sure, no bacteria is left behind, pop them in the dishwasher if you have one.

#Phones and Computers

Yikes! Phones and computers tend to harvest a ton of bacteria. Which is completely normal, as both things are touched constantly throughout the day. Much like door knobs! On the bright side, cleaning them isn’t too much of a hassle. For your phone, just use a cloth or cotton pad with some rubbing alcohol and clean. When it comes to your computer, make sure to clean the monitor properly and take special care with the keyboard. Just use a computer duster and an electronic-safe cleaner.

#Counter Tops

This includes all counter tops. Your kitchen counter, your bathroom counter and your work counter top. The chances that all of these places are filthy and yucky is very high. Use a germ-killing product to wipe down all of these surfaces.
