Can You Air Fry Potatoes?

Of course, you can! Potatoes, much like brussels sprouts, and air fryers are the best of friends. One of the best things about air frying is that it’s much healthier than deep-frying with oil. It cuts down calories, and it has a lot less fat. According to studies it also cuts down on other harmful effects that traditional oil frying has. Air frying doesn’t take too much time, and it’s super clean. Other than cleaning the frying basket, that’s really all you have to do. You just put the timer and leave it on your kitchen countertop to do its job.

Vegetables of all kinds achieve amazing results in the air fryer, but potatoes are definitely one of the best. Depending on what you want to do with them, you can get them super soft or super crunchy. You can make wedges, fries, baked potatoes, tater tots, potato skins, chips, ready-to-go store bought fries and more. You can do just about anything with them in the fryer. So, let’s see some ideas you can try out the next time you are craving some potatoes.

Do You Have To Soak Potatoes Before Frying?

You don’t have to soak your potatoes beforehand, but it does add some delicious benefits. Especially if you are cooking any variations of fries. If you are cooking them for party appetizers, this is a great way to ensure your guests love them.

Soaking potatoes in water before frying will remove their starch. This will help them become crispier when you cook them and will prevent them from sticking to one another. You can coat them in some olive oil afterwards to help them turn a beautiful brown.

Soak the potatoes for about an hour or even a whole day. Likewise, you can also leave them to soak in the fridge in a bowl of water. It all depends on your time schedule. Just make sure to pat them completely dry before you start seasoning them and prepping them for the air fryer.

How Long Do You Cook Potatoes In An Air Fryer?

It all depends on the type of potatoes you want to cook. For example, if you are frying thinly sliced fries or store-bought ones, you will only need between 15 and 25 minutes. But if you want to bake a full potato, then the cooking time changes to around 40 to 50 minutes. Sweet potatoes also have their own cooking time from around 30 to 50 minutes, depending on how they are sliced, whether they are cubed, fry shaped, or you are baking them whole.

Make sure to toss your potatoes from time to time while they are in the air fryer. This will help them cook evenly and be done faster. If you are baking potatoes, you can also put them in foil to make the process go quicker. Unlike the microwave, the air fryer uses hot air, so there won’t be a sparkling fireworks show inside.
